Earth is our home planet. And is only planet in our solar system known to harbor life. We seem to think we know pretty much about our home planet that nothing can surprise us at this point.   1. Every day our planet is showered with dust from space. On a Daily basis around Hundred tons of interplanetary material usually in the form of dust, drifts down to the Earth surface.
  2. Early Earth was all alone in its path around sun than about 4 Billion years ago when the earth was still just a baby a gigantic space rock with a lovely name Theia the size of mars collided with our Earth as a result moon was formed.
  3. There are around 22,000 man-made objects orbiting the Earth that are nearly 10 cm or even large. Around 5% of it comprises of functioning satellites and 8% of it comprises of sent rockets whereas the rest 87% of it comprises of fragments and inactive satellites.

  4. Over planet is covered in gold. About 20 Million Tons of gold can be found inside our planet and in seas. If all this precious metal could be extracted it would be enough to cover the entire surface of planet in a 2 foot layer of gold.
  5. Earth's magnetic field is changing. And Earth's North pole is moving. Researchers say that since the 19th century the northern magnetic pole has shifted about 685 Miles.
  6. Only 11 percent of the Earth surface is used to grow food.

  10. Gravity isn't the same everywhere on Earth. Because Earth isn't perfectly round so it's mass is irregular and differs in various places which causes wobbles of gravity in different areas of the planet. In Canada Hudson Bay gravity is much weaker than anywhere on the planet.
  11. The total surface area of Earth is 197 million square miles.
  12. The longest mountain range on Earth is actually underwater. It is called the mid ocean ridge system. It stretches from 80,000 Km all around the world and is nearly 20 times longer than the longest range on the surface, the Andes Mountains. Not only that, the whole thing is completely volcanic.
  13. Earth is home to more powerful volcanic eruption ever. The most powerful eruption ever recorded happened in April 1815 in Mount Tambora, Indonesia.
  14. One-tenth of Earth's surface is always under the cover of ice. And almost 90% of that ice found in the continent of Antarctica.
